husband had shingles ~1yr prior to diagnosis of parkinson's we attribute to his prior 4 yrs of lipitor therapy. am certain shingles related to lipitor use, also

I had CP as a child.

Have a whole host of problems since taking statins, mostly concerned about the neuropathy in both hands and arms and seems to be starting in the legs, also hypoglycemia and atrial fibrillation.

Had problems with side effect I never related to statins when I was taking Mevacor, Zocor, Pravachol and Lipitor. When the Dr. prescribed Crestor things went from bad to worse real fast.

Really hard for me to trust any prescriptions I am offered, most of them just cause more issues.

This is my first post in this entire forum so please forgive me if this doesn't post correctly. I have had both chicken pox and shingles as an adult. Earlier this year, I took 40mg doses of Simvastatin and immediately began having problems with leg pain and spasms. 6 weeks later, I had an MRI showing two herniated disks in my lower back impinging on my spinal cord. Prior to taking the statins, I was a healthy 46 yr old professional male working out three times a week The only negative health history was shingles...interesting you would make the connection. I was wondering the same thing before I found this site.

By the way, how does one actually place their vote in this mythical poll? I can't find a way to vote even after joining as a member. I can see the results of the 22 people or so voting, but no way to "vote here" or "submit vote" or something like that (Not the most computer literate individual)

The voting is a little obscure. Not sure if I am right about this. When I voted I just scrolled up to the top of the blog and there was the space to vote. Now all I see is the results.

Seems I am the culprit on this one. A poll is set up originally with a time limit, and I set this one at 60 days. Due to restrictions in the code, it can't be extended. Still, the percentages speak for themselves and post entries can still be made.

Cjbrooksjc- you describe the sensation in you lower body as vibrations. I have the feeling in my hands and right arm. The doctor says it's tremors. I also have it in my eyes and my tongue. On a "bad" day I can hear it in my speech. I feel a slight vibration in my leg in the evening but more of an ache or heaviness (hard to explain). You also spoke of the good days vs the bad. It's so hard to commit to doing things not know if you'll be up to it or not. I'd like to work but don't feel I'd be dependable. And the family as you mention would very much like to think, now that I'm off Statins I'm well. I've been off Lipitor now almost 3 years.
Have you notice that with extra stress or fatigue that you feel the tremors or vibrations more? The first time I realized the connection was a trip to the emergency room and my right hand was shaking so bad and no one could figure out why, when I was brought in for SOB. Now I know when the shaking is bad to stop and rest.
As for my memory, it's the scariest part. I want to think it will also ebb and flow but there are so many days in a row that I can't remember the simplest things.
I too wish there was a clinic with specialist that could really guide me to a livable state of existence, if not a cure.

I had CP as a kid, probably in late 1940s. Had first case of shingles as adult, probably in 1970s, with recurrance of shingles during an incredibly stressful two weeks in early 1980s.

As I read more about statin adverse effects, I am begining to suspect that I am one of the more sensitive-to-statins folks, although perhaps not extremely so.

Sorry to answer your question, yes I had CP at 14 and hospitalized for 3 days.

Chichen pox (herpes-zoster) is one of the viruses linked to mitochondrial damage and dysfunction as are several other viral infections such as mono. I suspect mito damage from these infections, usually minor and "unnoticed", primes the pump, so to speak, for the statin damage.

mercury is also mito mutagenic, It would be interesting to see if there is any correlation to amalgum fillings and statin damage.
