Yes David, article you give reference to describes a debate within JAMA. HOWEVER, when I looked in reference list, only JAMA article I saw quoted is standard party line about "Statins are Wonderful".
On repeated, careful rereading of Jon Barron's article I finally found reference to JAMA article titled "Healthy Men Should Not Take Statins" by Rita F. Redberg, MD; Mitchell H. Katz, MD

Jon Barron's article is nice, however, I am one of those folks that much prefers to read original material rather than someone's rehash/summary.
Here is citation to JAMA "Statins are great" debate article, for those that may also have trouble with really fine print of Jon's citation list.

Thank you for providing article with references to actual JAMA articles.
It will be wonderful should statins be phased out extensively, even totally as far as I am concerned. I too hope "statins are bad" realization snowballs and that cholesterol scam meets its well deserved demise -- but, I will remain skeptical tills I see that actually happen.
Whenever I finally decide to visit some doctor for another round of blood tests, I will take copies of these JAMA articles along. Could be fun!!
Thanks again,
Lars
