Hi Tracy, late reply but your friend is not alone in their statin allergy problems in Auatralia.
I live in Tasmania and had severe allergic reaction to statins, not much pain but severe fatigue, non productive cough and breathing difficulties with any exertion, when at my worst, exertion meant standing up or walking a few meters, hyper sensitive to certain perfumes, smoke, plants etc. which cause the same reaction as above and the longer the exposure the longer to recover.
I also had several amnesia occurrences and my memory was totally shot plus several other issues/symptoms.
My Dr completely ignored the possibilty of statins being the cause so I was as above for years, until I discovered on the net about statins and took myself off them, I improved dramatically in a few days but only up to a certain point,
My Dr tried every brand and dosage but with in a short period my health would again plummet until he finally admitted it was the statins.
Ezetrol caused the same symptoms but with severe muscle pain in the legs thrown in.
I won't go into my fully history since then but I am still not completely healthy (actually getting worse again recently) although I have almost gotten back to normal for a couple of short periods since then.
Very frustrating as I was an avid cyclist and now at best I can ride and electric assisted bike a short distance occasionally
The Dr I have been seeing has high cholesterol and told me he won't take statins himself but keeps prescribing them to his patients!
