I am currently on 1000mg Niaspan and have been off Zocor for the past year and a half. I had been on Zocor for 13 years. I am 65 years old and have experienced progressively worsening short term and long term memory problems (my main reason to discontinue Zocor) - even though I am not currently on Zocor. I have also and am currently experiencing some foot swelling and pain. Otherwise I am in very good health.
As stated in "Statin alternatives" http://www.spacedoc.net/statin_alternatives.htm - I would like to talk with my physician on an upcoming visit regarding the "alternatives":
Omega 3 - 81mg dose of buffered aspirin - CoQ10 (CoenzymeQ10).
I am also on a daily dose of Cerefolin of 1 M5 tablet daily (my current homocysteine levels are OK).
Bottom line is from what I gather from the above listed page, is that Omega 3 + 81mg dose of buffered aspirin + CoQ10 would be the alternatives. Would it also be recommended that I continue with Cerefolin in place of "80-100mg of B6, 200-250mcg of B12 and 400-800mcg of
folic acid"?
Sorry to be so long-winded........Thanks for your time.
