Arlington National Cemetery, May 3, 2017
The horse-drawn caisson, carrying the flag-draped casket, approaches.
Six horses pull the caisson, and in keeping with tradition, only the three horses on the left have riders.
The horsemen of the caisson platoon bring the horses and artillery caisson to a halt.
Members of the 3rd United States Infantry Regiment "The Old Guard" lead the procession...
... followed by the caisson, with escort ...
... with the riderless, caparisoned horse following the caisson.
Note the boots in the stirrups, pointing backwards, signifying that the fallen will never ride again.
